Photography One – Hard copy Portfolio

Photography One – Hard copy Portfolio
In your photography portfolio...the idea is to choose your BEST work.
Work that proudly represents the type of artist you are.
How you organize your portfolio is also a reflection of you and your art.
HINTS!!!
  1. Arrange with your AUDIENCE IN MIND... do they know what any of this is?
    1. Do you have explanation blurbs do they help explain?
    2. Would labels be appropriate?
    3. Does the ORDER make sense?

  1. Arrange by SPREADS... what both the left and right page look like together when open.  All vertical images are together then all horizontal images…

  1. TAPE or tack your projects in so they don’t slide. Everything should be mounted and labeled.

  1. All projects will go into the portfolio.

  1. NEATNESS is VERY important.

Keep in mind this is the last impression you leave me with as a student in my Photography 1 class...

What impression would you like that to be...?

The Musts…
  • Each piece of work should include the following
          • Title, size, media (B/W sliver gelatin, or Digital), and date

  • As homework you will start writing descriptions about each project and what you learned. This will be added to your portflio.
  • The more detailed you are the easier it will be for me to interpreted your portfolio as a whole. The questions should be intertwined with your work and be a demonstration of the journey you went through in this class.
  • Designed to reflect you as a designer!
  • Create pages that showcase your projects:

  • Title page with a self-portrait (Page One)
  • Artist Statement (Page Two) - Part 2 of Final
  • General Index page of all slides
  • All Projects with Images and explanations… Images should show your growth
  • Reflection (through out)

  • Extra Images – Compilation pages of projects…
  • Add your own flare
  • Must have a insert on the cover with your name – digital images…
  • End with a contact page…

More Hints… What am I looking for in the portfolios…?

ORGANIZATION

Does your portfolio appear to be organized?
Does the layout make sense?
Does the viewer know what he/ she is looking at?

PROFESSIONALISM

Is craftsmanship clean?
Is care taken in creating the spreads and layouts?
Are labels or additional items professional looking?

BEST WORK/ BEST LIGHT

Does the work chosen represent the best artwork you do?
Does the work “sell” the designer?
Is the impression left a positive one?
Due On Jan 3 - Progress Check of all work up to this point.
Due on Jan 6 Th Final Portfolio with all projects

Strong portfolios:
  1. Easily identify who the artist is.
  2. Are neat and clean.
  3. Have work displayed that does not fall out.
  4. Start and finish strong.
  5. Are arranged in a manner that makes sense to the viewer (consider your audience-me).
  6. Are arranged by “spreads”; meaning work on both the left and right pages that go together, and are viewed as one layout.
  7. Are labeled so the work viewed is understood.
  8. Have consistent design- labels are all the same font, color, design, etc (think of websites).
  9. Have a bit of personality to them.
  10. Are created with a purpose in mind…to get a job, show work in a certain area, to pass a semester final…
